Ispirandosi al detto latino “Oculi imago animae sunt”, questo progetto fotografico si presenta come una galleria di ritratti.
Ritratti di uomini, donne, bambini.
Un solo elemento in comune: la stessa maschera indossata, che nasconde il volto ma non lo sguardo. Sugli occhi l’unico punto di messa a fuoco: perché solo gli occhi svelano – al di là di qualsiasi possibile maschera – chi siamo e cosa sentiamo.
Solo gli occhi sembrano fuggire totalmente al nostro controllo rivelando ( e rivelandoci) qualcosa di peculiare che ci fa riconoscere tra 100, 1.000, 100.000 persone anche se il volto è coperto.
Quindi la maschera, da mezzo che dovrebbe celare, si trasforma in uno strumento che aiuta a svelare: una volta coperto il “superfluo”, l’essenziale emerge inevitabilmente.

Inspired by the Latin saying “Oculi imago animae sunt”, this photographic project looks like a portrait gallery.
Portraits of men, women, children. Only one element in common: the same mask worn, which hides the face but not the gaze.
The only point of focus on the eyes: because only the eyes reveal – beyond any possible mask – who we are and what we feel.
Only the eyes seem to totally escape from our control, revealing (and revealing) something peculiar that makes us recognize among 100, 1,000, 100,000 people even if the face is covered.
So the mask, from a means that it should conceal, is transformed into a tool that helps to reveal: once the “superfluous” is covered, the essential inevitably emerges.
